The President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, delivered a statement regarding the latest nuclear test of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on 3 September 2017.

Le Président de la République, Emmanuel Macron, condamne avec la plus grande vigueur le nouvel essai nucléaire effectué cette nuit par la Corée du Nord, qui fait suite à une série d’essais de missiles balistiques confirmant la volonté répétée de Pyongyang de porter atteinte à la paix et la sécurité internationales. La France réitère son soutien à ses alliés et partenaires dans la région.
Le Président de la République appelle les membres du Conseil de Sécurité des Nations Unies à réagir rapidement à cette nouvelle violation par la Corée du Nord du droit international, du régime de non-prolifération nucléaire et des résolutions du Conseil, dont la résolution 2371 adoptée le 5 août 2017 à l’unanimité. Il souhaite également une réaction unie et claire de l’Union européenne.
La communauté internationale doit traiter cette nouvelle provocation avec la plus grande fermeté, afin d’amener la Corée du Nord à reprendre sans condition la voie du dialogue et à procéder au démantèlement complet, vérifiable et irréversible de ses programmes nucléaires et balistiques.

The President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, condemns with the utmost vigor the new nuclear test carried out by North Korea during the night, which follows a series of ballistic missile launchesthat demonstrates the North Korean regime’s determination to undermine international peace and security. France reiterates once again its support to its allies and partners in the region.
The President of the French Republic calls on the members of the United Nations Security Council to rapidly respond to North Korea’s new violation of international law, of the nuclear non-proliferation regime and of the Security Council resolutions, including resolution 2371 adopted unanimously on 5 August 2017. He also calls for a united and clear response from the European Union.
The international community must address this new provocation with the utmost firmness in order to induce North Korea to resume dialogue without conditions and to proceed with the complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantling of its nuclear and ballistic programs.
