PoA/SALW : Side-event "Building national capacity in WAM to sustain peace and prevent conflict" (June 19, 2018, New York) [fr]

France has co-organised, with the support of UNMAS, a side-event on "Building national capacity in weapon and ammunition management to sustain peace and prevent conflict", in the margin of the 3rd Review Conference of the Programme of action of the United Nations on Small Arms and Light Weapons.

By the example of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, this event aimed to illustrate the concrete impact of improving the weapons and ammunitions management to sustain peace and prevent conflict. Stocks management is crucial, especially in troubled times.

This event has been held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Conference Room D (CR-D) of the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The speakers were H.E. Ambassador Alice Guitton, Permanente Representative of France to the Conference on Disarmament, Ms. Agnès Marcaillou, Director of the United Nations Mine Action Service, colonel Jean-Pierre Kasongo, Permanent Secretary to the National Commission of Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Mr. Himayu Shiotani from UNIDIR.
