The P5 countries (France, China, United States, United Kingdom, Russia) met in Paris on 2-3 December 2021 to discuss the P5’s contributions to the 10th NPT (Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons) Review Conference to be held in New York from 4-28 January 2022.

The P5 countries (France, China, United States, United Kingdom, Russia) met in Paris on 2-3 December 2021 to discuss the P5’s contributions to the 10th NPT (Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons) Review Conference to be held in New York from 4-28 January 2022.

The P5 members had in-depth discussions on the topics of the 2019 Beijing Roadmap and the follow-up to the 2020 London meeting on non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament issues, amongst others.

In particular, they discussed strategic risk reduction, doctrines, proliferation crises, disarmament and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, but also strategic stability issues. They took a number of decisions on these topics in view of the NPT Review Conference and adopted a joint P5 communiqué setting out the position of the five nuclear-weapon States in view of this important deadline for the international non-proliferation regime.
